Vasanas
Burning The Hidden Veils
Ramana was crystal clear that the final cut of moksha will not occur until all of the unknown karmic tendencies known as vasanas are completely removed. In fact, moksha is not a doing to get—it is more accurately described as the deep burning to reveal. The obvious question that arises is how do you remove karmic tendencies that you know nothing about? Are vasanas even real? The pervasive conversation in the west is that everything observed and experienced is Maya—the great illusory nature of the universe. This has been misinterpreted to mean everything is an illusion, which often translates in the Western mind to the false idea that your vasanas are ultimately unreal and nothing needs to be done to remove them. But Ramana had a much different interpretation. He described Maya as the indescribable nature of creation—the aspect of the vast still presence of the Self or the formless presence of God that moves—this definition reveals that your vasanas are in fact real and must be overcome for moksha. But is there any evidence of this? The documentary movie Unmistaken Child reveals that vasanas are not only real—they transcend death.
To removed the unknown karmic tendencies of vasanas—the sacred fire of sadhana must be practiced to ignite the sacred flame of shakti within your body that has the innate power to burn away these unseen and unknown barriers to moksha. Ramana’s teaching is the great acceleration of this evolutionary process through the power of vichar and the ancient practices he recommended that are well documented in the Ramana Gita.
